Icons of the web scaled by popularity
Interessante e divertido: Nmap visualizes site popularity as scaled icons. Favicons, that is. They're that little icon that shows in your address bar or when you bookmark a site in your browser. If you're reading this on FlowingData, you should see a little red icon next to the URL. The larger the icon, the more popular the site is, based on Alexa traffic data. In whole, the image is a giant 37,440 by 37,440 pixels image. Google is 11,936 x 11,936 pixels. Facebook is 6,736 × 6,736 pixels. Yahoo is 6,544 × 6,544 pixels. (via FlowingData).

Vale a pena ler.

"At Wired, our design team sees this constraint as our daily bread. On every editorial page, we use words and pictures to overcome the particular restrictions of paper and ink: We can't animate the infographics (yet). We can't embed video or voice-over (yet). We can't add sound effects or music (yet). But for all that we can't do in this static medium, we find enlightenment and wonder in its possibilities. This is a belief most designers share. In fact, the worst thing a designer can hear is an offhand "Just do whatever you want." That's because designers understand the power of limits. Constraint offers an unparalleled opportunity for growth and innovation."

Vamos de notas curtas?
Essa é a nova ordem no Wall Street Journal:
"At The Wall Street Journal, the new bosses’ campaign to change the paper’s style increased in intensity last week with a memo from the top editor, Robert Thomson, indicating that reporters there will be required to supply a corporate sibling, Dow Jones Newswires, more often, and with faster, clearer versions of their articles.
(...) What that means, according to people in The Journal’s newsroom, is that the first version of breaking news to go out on the wires should be just a headline and a couple of sentences, written in the simplest terms and sent out as soon as possible, rather than a fuller article written in the more complex language of the printed paper. "

meu comentário: quer dizer que as notícias terão agora o formato do Twitter?
